What's Your Number?

I was playing tennis last night with 3 players whose USTA Rating is a whole point above mine. I am a solid 3.0 player. These ladies are very good 4.0 players. I love a good challenge, but hate to disappoint other players with my sloppy play. As I was doing the warm up hitting cross court with one of the ladies, I was so afraid that even my warm up hitting was not enjoyable for her. I didn't want to come out and say, sorry if I bore you, but I am only a 3.0 player, because that would be just a wee bit tacky. As I continued to hit I began envisioning what tennis would be like if we all had our USTA rating number floating above our heads as we played.

As I expanded upon the thought of the floating Rating, I starting thinking of how funny it would be to see the numbers go up when you played well and nose dive when your play went down hill. With the floating numbers, you could go to any tennis courts and just walk around until you found a number that you felt up to playing against for the day. There would be no more wondering if the opponent was sand bagging, the number would be right there for all to see. The floating numbers would hopefully help keep egos in check. But then again, maybe not.

So yes I think that the floating numbers would be fun, but in the end we may not take the opportunity to improve our game by playing tougher opponents as the higher ranks may not want to take the time to play with the lower numbers. I guess that it is best that we don't have the floating numbers, because I may not have had the opportunity to play on a court with three 4.0 players and have such a wonderful time. The best news of all about my adventure last night is that I played and laughed for hours with three great players and I didn't suck.

Oh the Things that you notice if you are just paying attention

I was watching the Simpson's a few weeks ago and saw this cartoon frame. Thanks to the DVR, I was able to rewind for a second glance. Check out the sign.... "Golf "N" Die Retirement Villiage." How wrong is that and how funny.

This picture is a good example of the small details that are all around us if we only take a moment to notice. Our lives are filled with so many activities and messages are shooting at us from all direction. I am sure that there are more touching and beautiful pictures that I am missing. But this picture is a reminder to keep your eyes and mind open. Take a few moments everyday to be aware of your surroundings. It's all apart of being alive and enjoying life it's self. It is also a good time to give thanks for all of God's gifts around us.

Not Everyone Gets the Iphone.... But I love It!

Ok, so I think that this is one of the funniest pictures ever. This is what happens when you give your Iphone to a worker at the RBC Center and ask for him to take a picture. This was his first try. The other pictures came out much better.

The picture is so funny to me that I had to think of a topic that would go with it.

So my topic today is my love for my Iphone.

I purchased my Iphone back in August 2009. Just after I got the phone, we went on a family vacation to Upstate NY. Along the way I learned and put to use many of the functions of my new phone. I took pictures at every rest stop and posted them to facebook so that my Mother could track our progress. I did the same at every attraction. I used the maps function to find out exactly where we were along the way and how close we were to attractions. I video taped many of our adventures. We listened to audio books for a few hours of the trip. I checked the news and googled any and everything. It was so wonderful that I could use the Iphone to document our trip.

In the months that have followed, I have used my Iphone to take almost all of the photos that I have taken. I love that I can take and share pictures immediately, whether on facebook, by email, or text message. I have to say that photos and video functions are my favorite functions.

I could go on and on about all of my cool apps and crazy adventures with them, but for now I will just end by stating again, I love my Iphone.

Signs, Signs, Everywhere There's Signs.....

This is one of the funniest and most ridiculous warning signs that I have ever seen. My sons found this ball in the local Borders Books Store. It comes with the warning label, "Warning, Choking Hazard. Do not put into mouth." I seriously do not know anyone who can fit this enormous ball into their mouth, much less swallow it. Seems like the waste of a good warning label to me, but it is a great topic for conversation.

Free Jello Shots at Food Lion?

It is always funny to me to find things totally out of context. When I see just oddities, I try to take a picture to document the sighting. These always make for fun face book postings. Just a few lines to go along with the quirky sighting.
Last Friday I was in the check out lane at my neighborhood Food Lion. Just beside the register I spotted this store display goodie give away. I had to do a double take. Even though I have actually never had a Jello Shot, believe it or not, I had to chuckle to myself about how much these shots of Canada Dry look just like Jello Shots.
I can't help but wonder what the world would be like if the local grocery store offered free Jello Shots upon check out. It is probably a very bad idea, but a pretty funny thought. Don't think that free Jello Shots will be coming to your local grocery store any time soon.

Who is The Other Robin Evans?

Hello there Blog Reader welcome to my Blog.

I am both The Robin Evans and The Other Robin Evans. I guess you could say that I have a split personality. No need to worry, it's not as crazy as it sounds. I actually am working on two blogs that will contain my thoughts, ideas, what I find interesting, or just random thoughts. In The Robin Evans Blog, I plan to cover topics related to Real Estate and Living in the Triangle. In The Other Robin Evans Blog, I plan to write about whatever I find interesting at that particular moment.

So who is The Other Robin Evans? I love the song "Fruit Cakes", by Jimmy Buffett. My favorite line in the song is "There is a little Bit of Fruit Cake in every one of us". Well, The Other Robin Evans is all about the Fruit Cake in me. You should be forewarned, I'm a nutty sort of fruit cake.

So welcome to The Other Robin Evans Blog. I can't wait to see what I post. Hope you feel the same way.
